Tellys 2000
In 2000 the Kenwood Group received two bronze Telly awards. The first was for Officer Eddie on behalf of Infogrames North America. The second was for The Way You Want It, created for Seagate Technologies. The Seagate project was a particular challenge because it consisted of custom graphics and computer animation as well as live video footage. Brian Chavez was singled out, by the Executives at Seagate, as a key creative team member. His work was especially appreciated because he was placed on the project during his first week at Kenwood (talk about hitting the ground running).

The Telly Awards was founded in 1980, to showcase and give recognition to outstanding non-network and cable TV commercials. The competition was expanded several years ago to include film and video productions as well as non-network TV programming. The Telly Awards is affiliated with the Center for Creativity, an organization that is involved in providing information, seminars, and publications for people in the fields of creative communications.

Over twenty highly qualified production professionals judge entries against a high standard of excellence. Entries are rated on a10-point scale. Those receiving a score of 7.0 to 8.9 are "finalists" and receive the bronze Telly. Entries with a score of 9.0 or higher are "winners" and receive the silver Telly.

Judges look at each entry as a whole, and reward outstanding overall quality. They begin with concept, then consider all the things that a producer does in building a finished piece: writing, on-screen talent quality, set design, lighting, cinematography, editing, sound, music, etc.

This year over 11,000 entries were submitted. Approximately 7-10% are awarded statuettes.

Video and Film and Program winners in last year's competition included client firms such as Sony Pictures, Ent., Columbia TriStar, The History Channel, Cessna, Warner Bros., Princess Cruise Lines, Anhueser-Busch, Int., Chrysler, The Discovery Channel, CNN, Microsoft, Deere, The Nashville Network, Coca Cola Company, FedEx, Sesame Street, Forbes Magazine, The New York Times, A&E, Pepsi, The 700 Club, Smithsonian Institution, The Learning Channel, and AT&T just to name a few.

The Ozzie Awards for Magazine Design Excellence are given out each year by Folio: magazine, a PRIMEDIA Intertec publication. Now in its 11th year, the Ozzie Awards program honors magazines that demonstrate excellence in their artistic and design endeavors.
